Why brands are investing millions in the metaverse – BBC News | Onlyinvesting.info

Brands are spending tens of millions of dollars investing in the metaverse.

Gucci, Nike, Burberry and Walmart are just some of the companies buying up digital land as a way to promote their products.

Nearly $2bn has been spent in the past year on metaverse real estate, according to analysts.

But it’s not just big corporations turning to virtual reality: some artists and smaller businesses believe this new technology is the future of retail, and are making products which can only be sold within the metaverse.

  1. I admit I haven't looked into metaverse that seriously, but it just seems like a new version of Second Life to me and I can't really see the big difference between them. (Other than the AR stuff and new technology used in it.)

  2. Hello guys! Im a Decentraland Daily user and would love to answer any questions!
My channel also has Decentraland content if you are curious!
We have a very active daily user base, mainly Poker but there is a strong community as well!

We welcome you all and are ready to help <3

  3. In the long run, it may be profitable for some, and an increase in mental illness for others, especially now, there is a plague of "Cancel Culture." I will think twice before investing in the metaverse, I love 'real' estate. Maybe, one might find 'heaven' in the metaverse, even Jesus Christ.

Good advice: Use that money to assist 'the underprivileged or people in need.'

  4. Why would you buy land… It's all just a Unity scene you can make and publish yourself on leading platforms like ChilloutVR or VRChat… You drop your Blender scene onto Unity and make or take some assets and that's it. This is all rubbish. Brands would just get onto Blender and drop their own scenes on which ever app it is their targeting. Oh by the way, Metaverse is a multitude of applications, VRChat has been at it for years, it doesn't have to do with Facebook or what ever is that they are implying here. People don't "buy" land in the metaverse, you just compile your scene on Unity, in fact, people don't buy worlds, they buy asset packs from the Unity store, you can buy that, but not worlds, it doesn't make sense.

  5. (Sees someone walkin 👀 around ina normal work outfit..) *puts on augmented glasses of the future allowing me to see peoples digital outfits **feints from coolness of gg ultra armor 5000**…

  6. Literally no ones cares aside from the advertising and marketing scum pushing this onto kids.

Ever so desperate to invent a new revenue stream, their "standards" are getting utterly sad and pathetic.

  7. When there’s unlimited virtual land, how much is it worth?😂 if Facebook decides to put a price on it or have you subscribe to use the servers. It’s total bs to invest into Facebook like this. Gamers know not to trust the aaa publishers. Gamers spent their time where the fun is. Getting milked out of cash isn’t fun

  8. Everyone Metaverse will not be the same – my metaverse will be more realistic and user dont have to spend money or buy NFT's / land to have fun. The real future of Virtual events🔥🔥

  9. Does anyone know of Second life? the game where you can make your self just the way you look in real life, and play, and make clothes and sell? And also make real life jobs out of it if you make 3D stuff?

  10. IT WILL NEVER BE USER FRIENDLY, ALL THAT WILL HAPPEN IS THAT THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO MAKE IT SEEM USER FRIENDLY ON THE SURFACE WHILE THE SAME TOXIC BUSINESS MODEL EXISTS UNDERNEATH, SAME AS WITH CURRENT SOCIAL MEDIA. WHOEVER ACTS LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW THAT AND JUST ADVERTISES THE METAVERSE ARE PLAYING A PART IN DESTRUCTION IT WILL CAUSE TO SOCIETIES AND PEOPLES LIVES. LIKE HOW CAN THE SAME PEOPLE WHO KILLED KIDS FOR PROFITS BE ALLOWED TO MAKE THESE THINGS? Bcs nothing other than money matters in the dirty meaningless west.

  11. The metaverse is the next big thing in the tech world, with the potential to offer multi-trillion-dollar business opportunities in the long term. Which is why brands want to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking technology and are investing millions in the metaverse, as they know it's the future of online experiences.

  12. Roblox millions
    Land buying started in metaverse
Are people really are going to wear digital clothing in the future?
For the young virtual world and real world are the same
There's a lot you have to think about before you are putting your money in

  13. This is like NFT's. All hype and no substance. Nobody cares about NFT's anymore and in a year from now the metaverse will be marked down as a hype bubble.
