150 million * 592 is a bit more than 8.9 billion $
Why it would not work the reason nothing works in africa. The people would steal the panels and break the system so they can have jobs fixing what they brake
the probnlem is that humans are dumb period
No money is the problem. Money to engineering would solve this problem
Ironically, it was actually Asian industrialisation that put the final bullet in the African economies. They were slowly growing more productive and industrial, but cheaper Asian products murdered the nascent industries in the 90s and 00s.
Often people dont consider just how much power there is in people just WANTING something. Worldwide attention towards something makes that thing a reality.
Problems: africans
I think it's easy to do if there is really political will to do it through whole Europe. But politicians can never agree on something. Even if it benefits the whole area.
So use africa to supply energy to europe? When is this gonna stop? Havent we taken enough out of this continent?
Imagine outsourcing the entire emergy production to another continent. Ideal scenario for a war😂
Have you ever considered doing a video about these proposed orbital solar farms? I'm a student of astronomy and I'm fascinated by the idea, despite the very obvious hickups, but I don't really have the time on my hands to do a full analysis. It would be great if somebody who knows what he's talking about to address this idea and try to figure out for a broader audience whether this is a viable source of energy on Earth or more of a pipe dream. In various space applications having a separate power generating module that can transmit this energy might be hugely beneficial (exploration vehicles that can receive additional power by an overhead solar farm in orbit via energy beam for example, expanding the lifetime of such missions to previously unthinkable levels), but since the Earth has a pretty thick atmosphere filled with many clouds this gets tricky very fast. Especially since on an inhabited planet energy beams might cause problems if the operator can't aim… Anyway, long story short, I think this would be a fascinating video to watch, not just for space and engineering nerds like me and you.
Algeria is a historically impoverished country?!!! 😅😮
Maybe instead of putting solar panels in Africa to serve Europeans, maybe put solar panels in Africa to serve, you know Africans? Just saying.
Biggest problem with solar is storage of energy when the Sun is not shining. Batteries are 10x more expensive than the panels.
We should be thinking about transferring energy the same way God did it: through radiations, lasers can be a good candidate. Still should be made safe.
Global IQ averages = That's your problem. . . The other scheme to take your hard earned money and waste it with a kick back
It's NOT just Africa. It is the entire world. SOLAR IS NOT A VIABLE BASE LOAD SUPPLIER OF ELECTRICITY
i think it would be pretty easy if the things can happen on a local scale because then the cost of transmission of electricity and loss of it during transmission would be negligible. Government should rather spend money on awareness and making it more available for the general public so that many of us switch to solar panels asap
The cost cannot be the issue here, especially if you look at the national debt of The USA,the cost could easily be recovered if they were really worried about carbon emissions,It’s obviously the oily men stopping this happening,.,
Solar is a scam. 80% decrease in efficiency in extreme heat. As I remember it gets very hot in the desert. What about sand storms? Another favorite scam of mine is Biomass energy. Cutting down whole forest and burning them to generate electricity. Much better than burning coal. You know living trees store carbon removing it from the air. But not if you burn them.
1.21 jiggawatts??
There is lots of sun in Spain, italy, greece
no way you referenced burning man ahahah I love it
Try using the power to desalinize water which in turn is used to irrigate land for mixed Food Forests. Just start small, enough power to desalinized a million gallons of sea water a day, from the Mediterranean to irrigate a couple to maybe 10 or so hectares of mixed crop FOOD FORESTS. These FOOD FORESTS will spring up along the coast first, and slowly move inland as the Forested Lands would be able to store water in swales and groundwater recharge. YES GROUNDWATER RECHARGE>
It's not a vanity project. It's not a charity project. But it's a better use of the excess wealth in the Rich Countries than more aircraft carriers and attack submarines.
You can't have it both ways. You can't accuse Europe of exploiting Africa, but then at the same time say that the solar companies are being callous if they decide it isn't profitable to come to Africa. You put Europeans in a position where no matter what they decide to do – they are wrong.
It sounds to me like your political agenda might be tainting your interpretation of events. If the water issue can be solved by desalination plants, then if Africans are smart they will welcome the turning of desert wasteland into profit for both themselves and Europeans.
This energy needs to go south to the rest of Africa.
desolate land? historically impoverished nations? did colonialists write this script?
it assumes that they will produce for europe. What about using the energy for themselves, settling factories around the solar farm. Excess heat during the day could be avoided by watercooling in closed cirquit.
The sun is too powerful 💪and the desert cannot be tamed by humans?
U would think in a desert area it would be great! I just wonder, back in a day when we sent a lot of $$ to Aftica and built wells, what happened?? Why do they still need help? Between that and the scammers i think their economy should be booming….this is a real question, not an attack on a nation…..
Just a comment from the first two minutes…. that's an ambitious project, to power the entire world with solar. Seems possible from those so-called napkin calculations, but how on Earth could we produce that many solar panels, and in a time frame that the first ones installed don't start to degrade before the last ones are produced? More-over, would the energy costs and pollution caused by doing so, outstrip the savings attained by shutting down coal and gas fired power plants?
Generating hydrogen with modular, mass-producible setups might make more sense in these areas. When you have energy to spare, it's not so bad to waste it in the conversion.
I guess just pumping large amounts of water from Mediterranean would be a challenge there, hence why it also makes more sense to do that closer to the Mediterranean.
Unique perspective. Your story is about 180 degrees from what happens. Starting projects is typically problematic.
Problem Will arise about the extensive solar panel land covering region. It Will Interfere with nature the way natural wind blown nutrients are carried across the atlantic thus Starving- the amazon forests of what it needs and has relied on to flourish for millions of years.
Energy monopoly is the problem. Russia fxxxd us. One day morroco will get pissed n block Energy.
It's funny the first "problem" you mention is "How do we transform this to Europe?"
To hell with Europe
You need some Mexicans
Algeria will never ever allow it energy to go through Morocco to Europe because of their treason to their neighbors Algeria in normalizing with the apartheid state of isreal. Algeria is the only well positioned country to supply enough energy to to Europe
The transition into the Brilliant sales pitch was too smooth
Forget Europe. Almost all the population growth in the next 60 years happens in Subsaharan Africa. Take the power there.
efficiency of HVAC is lower under the water. Crossover distance is near 100km only.
There even exist LFHVAC that works at near 17Hz.

Good idea if you want to turn the Amazon into a desert 👍
Let's not be blindsided by greed as usual and embark on plans to install solar panels estates in the Sahara without modelling the climate impacts which will definitely affect precipitation patterns in America in the short and long term via heat losses and dust reduction.
Haven’t we learned from the Russia/Ukrain war and gas prices? 😅
アフリカのみならず、全世界がソーラーパネルの設置ではなく、植林活動に力を入れるべきです‼️
Sounds like Bitcoin mining farm in that area would make a boat load of money
Why not try in India l? Pakistan
transmission of electricity could be circumvented by transformation into hydrogen
How about just powering Africa hmm..
