A Day in the life of an Investment Banking Intern at Goldman Sachs in the San Francisco office. Some of you have asked, so here’s a day in the life as an investment banking summer analyst at Goldman Sachs. It’s been many moons and the hours are slightly better now, but directionally everything is pretty much the same (presentations, models, long hours, etc.).

If you’re interested in learning the system I used to get a job at Goldman Sachs and 9 investment banking offers, check out my Investment Banking Bootcamp.

  1. Hi Peter. Thank you for the great video. I really want to ask how your resume looked like before you landed your first internship. What were the activities you had that made you stand out to companies?

  2. My spouse and I are adding a variety of stocks/ETF to my present holdings for the long term, We've set aside $250k to start following inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows, I believe it is a good time to capitalize on the market for long-term gains, but it wouldn't hurt to know means of actualizing short term profit.

  3. Public Accounting (PA) especially big4 has the similar hours. Although works are bit different but day to day layout pretty much the same. So are the hours & pressure. I did few 8AM – 5AM hours and that still hunts me. Currently 2nd year in PA thought of making a move to IB, but it's definitely not for someone like me who value WLB. Thank you for sharing!

  4. For me personally, this line of work was hell on earth 😂 more power to you if you’re cut out for it, though. Switching to commercial real estate was the best thing that ever happened to me.

  5. You successfully sold IB life as essentially mental prison haha. Insufficient sleep, poor eating habits, high stress and little to no physical movement. This is a recipe to be mentally and physically destroyed by 30, which I can respect if that’s your thing but if you want to go that far, surely you sacrifice your body for something a bit more fulfilling. At this point you just ask, why? Ain’t no way you can argue the money, you can live an excessive lifestyle with a much smaller pay check. I can only understand it if the strategy is work there for a couple years to get something nice on your resume and then jump ship. But man, talk about being a hamster on a wheel haha. Big respect to the grinders, I just hope those people aren’t fuelled by something fickle like maintaining a social prestige because you work at IB.

  6. Long haul, my recommendation is for someone to own their time at 100 percent, and have a stream of passive income, the rest is conversation! And, to boot, leave the USA permanently and become an expat, that’s exactly what I did 19 years ago, it was the best decision of my life. In 2024 living La Dolce Vita in Central America, and feeling sorry for the idiots still living in the rat race…👆
